The Continue mode in Elser AI Story Studio is built for writers who already have material. Elser’s page says you can provide a previous story, character description, or writing-style reference and then expand the draft through conversation.
The feature works best when you tell Elser which text is authoritative and what consequence must happen next.
Prepare the Draft Before Continue
Remove abandoned alternatives and comments that are not part of the story. Then prepare four lists:
- fixed facts and world rules;
- what each character knows, suspects, and misunderstands;
- unresolved promises and setups;
- the final decision or change in the existing passage.
Upload or provide only material you own or may use. Confirm live reference limits in the current interface.
Give Elser a Continuation Packet
This chapter is the approved version and controls voice, facts, and chronology.

Ask for Options Before the Next Chapter
Request three consequences based only on existing promises. Ask Elser to identify the setup supporting each. Reject options that depend on a new power, forgotten evidence, or behavior inconsistent with character knowledge.
Choose one and request a scene outline. Because Story Studio is conversational, you can refine the option without restarting the project.
Preserve the Writing Style
If you provide a style reference, describe what it controls: viewpoint, tense, narrative distance, rhythm, sensory focus, and dialogue restraint. Do not ask for imitation of a named living writer.
Draft a bounded section with an entry and exit condition. After reading, ask Elser to revise only the layer that failed.
Update the Story State
After every accepted chapter, replace the old packet with a current one. Track names, location, time, injuries, inventory, relationships, knowledge, promises, and emotional state.
Elser retains story projects in the user library according to its current page, but saved conversation does not remove the need for a clean canon record. Several plausible branches can coexist in chat; only the writer knows which one was approved.
When Continue Is the Wrong Mode
Use Adapt if the existing chapter itself needs a new viewpoint, tone, genre, or ending. Use Create if you want to abandon the draft and rebuild the premise. Correct mode choice keeps Elser from solving the wrong problem.
Example: Restarting a Stalled Chapter in Elser
Assume the last chapter ends when Lio lies to enter a sealed district. A generic continuation might introduce a monster. A stronger Elser prompt asks for three consequences of the lie using only the guard, mentor mystery, and moving-street rule already established.
Choose the option in which the guard follows Lio and accidentally becomes trapped. The next chapter now contains an immediate objective, relational pressure, and a cost created by Lio’s decision. Put that selection into the state sheet and ask Continue for a scene outline before prose.
After approval, update the library version: the guard knows Lio lied; Lio knows the sealed street moves early; neither knows who wrote the old map. This disciplined update is what allows the following Continue request to remain attached to the same story.
